Embedding Sustainability into Business Strategy
Creating Long-Term Value through Responsible Infrastructure Financing
Sustainability is integrated into HUDCO's lending strategy by financing projects that generate measurable environmental and social outcomes while supporting India's long-term development goals.
Embedding Sustainability into Business Strategy
HUDCO’s lending portfolio has been delivering significant environmental and social outcomes since its inception by financing projects that improve the quality of life of millions and by reaching underserved sectors and geographies. Recognising that sustainability is becoming increasingly integral to infrastructure financing, HUDCO further strengthened its ESG agenda by deploying proceeds from its ESG loan facility towards projects generating measurable environmental and social outcomes, including sustainable water and wastewater management projects in Rajasthan and electric mobility infrastructure for the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation. These investments are improving access to safe drinking water, promoting cleaner public transport and supporting India's climate and inclusive development goals.

Rapid urbanisation is increasing the need for resource-efficient and environmentally sustainable infrastructure as resources are fixed and scarce and not keeping pace with the increasing urban population.
The transition towards a circular economy presents significant opportunities for investment in scientific waste management, resource recovery and sustainable urban infrastructure, creating a new growth avenue for HUDCO.

Municipal Solid Waste Generated Every Day in Urban India
Source • Economic Survey 2025–26Financing Sustainable Urban Infrastructure
According to the Economic Survey 2025-26, urban India generates approximately 1.6 Lakh tonnes of municipal solid waste every day, underscoring the urgent need for large-scale investments in integrated waste management infrastructure.
HUDCO will continue supporting investments in integrated solid waste management, waste-to-energy projects, wastewater recycling and reuse, resource recovery infrastructure and sustainable construction practices based on the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3Rs).
These investments will contribute to cleaner cities, improved resource efficiency and sustainable urban development, while opening new opportunities in green infrastructure financing.
