  1. About HSMI

    HUDCO’s Human Settlement Management Institute (HSMI) is the Training and Research wing of Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd, a Navratna CPSE (Central Public Service Enterprise) set up under the aegis of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India. It is an ISO 9001:2015 certified entity and the scope of activities covered by this certificate is Training, Research and Networking.

    HSMI is housed in HUDCO House, an eight-story building that is currently under renovation. Due to ongoing renovation, the HSMI staff is accommodated on the 5th floor of HUDCO Bhawan.

    Vision:
    To emerge as a centre of excellence in sustainable human settlement planning, development, and management.

    Mission:
    To make a significant contribution towards enhancing quality of life through action, policy research, and capacity building.


Objectives:

    • To enhance professional capacities to promote awareness, orientation and skill in human settlement planning and management.
    • To undertake evaluation studies, action & policy research, documentation, and dissemination.
    • To function as a think tank and catalyst of change by providing advisory services to national, state, and local level governments.
    • To promote networking with various stakeholders at the national and international levels.
    • To establish a state-of-the-art resource centre in the core areas of excellence.
    • To enhance the competence of HUDCO functionaries to cater to the emerging needs of its operations through research and capacity building.

  • Organisational Set-Up

    The institute has a multi-disciplinary faculty team consisting of professionals drawn from engineering, architecture, urban & regional planning, economics, and social development streams. Also, professionals from HUDCO Corporate and Regional Offices, who are actively engaged in the mainstream financing and appraisal operations of housing and urban infrastructure projects, provide professional inputs to support training programmes. The faculty of HSMI has diverse and rich experience of participation in national and international forums, dialogues, discussions, and policy formulation in the housing and urban development sectors. Besides, the HSMI faculty, Government of India officials, eminent academicians and professionals working in the sector also provide input on the current practices in urban management and sustainable development in the training programmes conducted by HSMI.
